B e e S p a c e @Sussex Prairie Gardens Henfield RHS Partner & Onca
I was invited to be artist in residence at the beautiful Sussex Prairie Gardens for 2018 and to run Beespace, a collaborative arts and environmental project. The aim was to encourage people to try new activities at the workshops whilst capturing peoples interest to learn more about our amazing Bees. Artworks onnshow - a 6 foot perspex cube installation, The Bee Eye Box and glass Bee eye Viewers hidden deep within the garden.
Beespace at the end of the summer was invited to Onca gallery - Glass and sound installation. Throughout the year we had filmed the garden and the bees and this became the film that was shown .
In November Onca hosted an accessible evening panel event which was well attended by a deaf and hearing audience.
The invited panel contributors were from;Dora Cluttick from Pesticide Action Networks, David Goulson from Sussex University,Lydia Heath from Onca , Pauline Mcbride from Sussex Prairie and myself. Exploration of the enviromental challenges bees are facing as well as a celebrating of all things made and achieved throughout the project.
Glass, Paper Wax and seed bomb making workshops, were run through out the project giving access to Deaf and Hearing participants ( I'm been a BSL British sign interpreter for many years)
